Your New Role

As a Business Analyst in the Business Systems branch you will work as part of a scrum team to deliver solutions to business problems. You will be responsible for populating the product backlog via in-depth investigation and gathering of technical and non-technical information. You will work closely with stakeholders to understand business processes and use this understanding to determine business requirements for systems. You will use a range of analysis techniques to document detailed business requirements and evaluate options for solution. You will facilitate workshops with business stakeholders and the development team to ensure a common understanding of requirements

About You

You will need the following experience and skillset:

  • Engage with stakeholders to facilitate the population and prioritisation of the Product Backlog.
  • Liaise with business SMEs and product owners to understand business requirements for Epics and Features in the Product Backlog.
  • Document Detailed Business Requirements for Epics and Features using a range of analysis techniques such as user journeys, use cases, process mapping, process flow diagrams.
  • Work closely with solution architects, software developers and test analysts to provide an understanding of business requirements and evaluate options for solution.
  • Facilitate workshops as required with business stakeholders and the development team to ensure common understanding of requirements
  • Provide input to the delivery roadmap to ensure requested changes to system are visible to senior management and align with the strategic direction.
  • Provide technical Support to Delivery of Feature releases
  • Provide guidance on prioritisation of the Product Backlog to ensure Epics and Features are ready to be progressed by the delivery team.
  • Ensure sufficient backlog items are sprint ready for the next sprint prior to sprint planning. This may involve running targeted backlog grooming sessions or feature breakdown sessions with the team to determine what PBIs need to be created to fulfil the feature.
  • Produce and provide documentation to business to demonstrate how the proposed solution will meet the business requirements as documented in the Epics and Features.
  • Develop user documentation to support the use of the solution by business.
  • Support the scrum master to promote the agile delivery process and continuous improvement process
  • Participate and support key sprint ceremonies (meetings)
  • Support team to set sprint goals and guide team to achieve the sprint goals
  • Engage with business to facilitate involvement in the agile delivery process Participates in Sprint Retrospective to review how well the Sprint was executed and identify opportunities for improvements to the delivery process.

Role Deliverables

  • Business analysis using a range of analysis techniques such as user journeys, use cases, user stories with acceptance criteria, process mapping, process flow diagrams.
  • The facilitation of discussions between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • The development of quality documentation (including requirements, epics, features and product backlog items, reports, management plans, procedure documentation, testing plans etc.).

Selection Criteria

  • Experience working in an agile software development team.
  • At least 5 years recent experience as Business Analyst in Commonwealth environment using a range of analysis techniques such as user journeys, use cases, user stories with acceptance criteria, process mapping, process flow diagrams.
  • Experience facilitating workshops between technical and non-technical stakeholder.
